website overhaul incl. adding social networking - need creative, out of the box ideas for special population

We need help thinking through and preparing a budget for a massive overhaul of the section of our website that offers (clinically moderated) online peer support/community building options to our membership of former abducted children....unless of course some lovely geek out there wants to undertake an ongoing volunteer project, in which case we need someone to manifest and maintain said overhaul :)

Hi Liss.
Depending on your specific needs/desires, you might give Google Friend Connect a try. With it, you can add social networking features to your existing site, relatively easily. Upside: it's pretty easy to install with very little impact on your existing site. Downside: You're trusting Google with your network and are at their mercy for up/downtime.

If you want more control (which means more operations and support on your side), you could try Lovd by Less or Insoshi.

You'll want to consider your specific requirements or share them: What are your primary goals for the site, prioritized? What are details of your current web presence: hosted, if so, where, is it currently maintained, does it have any custom-built software, if so, what languages are used?
