Wordpress.com as platform for a website

If your initial need is a simple web site with a few pages and some blogging, a free Wordpress.com account is a great way to go. See local law firm Swider Medeiros (http://www.smhllaw.com) as an example. After creating an account and logging in, in the administrative screen you just use "add page" to add (and name/title) your additional pages, and define one of them as the first page that the user comes to (instead of your blog page).
Pros:
- Don't need to know HTML or write any code.
- Quick to set up.
- You can choose from ready-made themes and upload some photos.
- You get a web address for free: http://yoursitename.wordpress.com.
- You are totally in control; after using it for a while you can go to the next step more knowledgeably.

Cons:
- Can't do forms or any kind of pages to interact with users.
- Can't restyle anything with CSS or Javascript.

Setting up a website

Depending on your needs, there are several solutions that do not require a technical person. If you are just trying to get information out to your group you can use wordpress.com to create a site based around a blog. There are also solutions such as www.mylocalway.com that don't require any technical expertise. If you can provide us with more details on what you want to do with your website we can better determine which would work.

Website help

Just to add to what David mentioned, what type of technical person do you require? Someone to design the website? Someone to keep it up and running? Someone to do backend maintenance? There are people here who can probably help with each step....
