Take Root's mission is to empower former abducted children to respond to child abduction by facilitating healing, sharing knowledge and raising issue awareness from the unique perspective of the abducted child.

Founded in 2003 with assistance from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and a grant from the US Department of Justice, Take Root is the first and only missing child agency in the country providing direct services to those who are abducted once they are no longer missing (all other missing child services provide assistance to the victim's family while their child is missing and/or train and aid professionals who search for missing children).

We need help thinking through an overhaul of the section of our website that offers (clinically moderated) online peer support/community building options to our membership of former abducted children. Like many, we lost our government grant when DOJ discretionary funds were slashed, so all we can do at this point is re-design on paper while seeking the alternate funding to make change happen....unless of course some lovely geek out there wants to undertake an ongoing volunteer project.....
